NEW YEAR CHALLENGE!

New for 2008!
We are launching a massive new campaign in the New Year called CHALLENGE 1000. The aim is to host 100 amazing events and raise £1K for each event. Events can be done in groups or individually… So far some of the challenges include: Sky Diving, Bungee jumping, running a marathon, half marathon, climbing the 3 peaks, getting a walk on part in a soap, recruiting celebrities, celebrity auction, sell 1000 RFL greetings cards, host a non-uniform day at your place of work or school etc.

The idea is people volunteer to take part in a challenge of their choice; any money raised will go towards the £1K sub-total for that event. It doesn’t mater how little or much is made as there will be opportunity to pledge a target amount….To date we’ve had coverage on ITV news, The Daily Express, Marie Claire, Zest Magazine, Arsenal FC Fanzine, Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio, The Guardian Online, as well as several regional radio stations, magazines and local newspapers.

York School boosts the RFL funds

Running For Life has been partnered with Millthorpe School in York since September 2006. The School has held several events to raise money for the project.
In early December 2007, members of the Year 8 School council helped to raise over £400 by selling Christmas gifts from Senegal. Staff and pupils alike bought jewellery, artwork and cards. It was amazing to get so many people on board to support us.
A big Thanks to everyone who helped out!

Several Year 7 pupils are taking part in a sponsored run over the festive season to raise further funds. Check back to see how they get on!

RFL Art Exhibition

Well after a quiet few months, I am pleased to announce that Running for Life’s very first art exhibition raised several hundred pounds. We were fortunate enough to be featured in one of York’s best Galleries .A collection of 20 unique, sand art pictures were on display at The Blakehead Bookstore and Cafe, on Micklegate. Created using sand and dye, this collection was made from sand found on Senegal’s golden beaches. Each picture depicts a scene from African village life. The collection’s entire proceeds went into the RFL fund, which ultimately will change the lives of hundreds of needy children in Oussouye, Senegal.

New Running for Life site launches!

Welcome to the world of Running for Life. Thanks so much for taking time to visit us. It’s been a long, exciting adventure that started off in 2002.

Having spent several months living and working in Oussouye, a rural community in Senegal, I was inspired to do something to help students at the local school improve their education. I’m sure you’ll have read all about our journey from humble beginnings to moving on to bigger things. (The story can be found on our website www.runningforlife.co.uk)

We are excited to bring you the Running for Life store, which will stock a host of original gifts, cards prints and accessories! Keep checking in for new stock! Proceeds from the sale of our goods will go back into running the project, and ultimately will help change lives out in Senegal.

If you are thinking about getting involved in a charity event this year- why not join us and help raise money for Running for Life?

All funds will go into building and equipping a library for students in Oussouye, enabling them to have access to a good education- one of the most precious gifts of all!You could put on a sponsored run or walk or hold a garage sale, anything that tickles your fancy! We are really grateful for any support.

I’d like to say a huge Thank you to everyone who has helped with the campaign from day one. We wouldn’t be where we are now without the tireless, dedicated volunteers who have made all of this possible! We are so grateful for all your help!

On behalf of children at the Aline Sitoe Diatta Lycee ( High School) , in Oussouye I’d like to say thanks for all your support and generosity- please spread the word and ask your friends and family to visit us here at http://www.runningforlife.co.uk/ we’d love to meet you! It would be great if you could sign our guestbook too. Look forward to keeping you updated! To keep up-to-date you can sign up for our newsletter!
